I’ve picked up my pen again. If one stays on a break for too long, you can lose the desire to return. It is like that with everything in life. At some stage you need to apply some discipline to get going again.

For the first time in along while, I have done some sketches while having coffee in a bistro in Tours. My favorite way of doing it, is with contour lines. If I don’t watch it, I’ll do everything in contour fashion. I love it.

Some of the sketches worked, others didn’t. But it is always like that. Not every sketch is a success. I’m happy with the sketch of the three men at the top and I’m happy with the two men to the left in the bottom sketch. Unfortunately the child and man to the right didn’t work out.

I have also received my first postcard from Albrecht in Germany. Please visit A postcard from albrecht in Germany to see the post on his postcard.

  1. I love contour drawing, too, Ronell, and yours are delightful. Thanks for sharing Albrecht’s postcards. Beautiful…and TWO, he sent–wow…

    annie

  2. I think the contours are great I tried doing Max from a photo and I have lost whatever pittance of a touch I had while taking art classes many years ago.
I would think that this exchange of postcards would be so much fun..

    Enjoy!

  3. i like your opening paragraph. yeah. exactly. …and if you dont get going again, then you have to find some other way to get going. again.

on one of the sketches you didnt like (and i do like the ones you do like too) – but on the one of the man – back to us – obviously with child in arms – wow. even tho over all it may not work as well as some of the others… you did catch the special, precious weight that is in his arms. that’s treasure. (imo). cool.

i like the water soluble ink (great line and bleeding values). what ink are you using? and do you know if it is archival? – thanks. aloha.

  4. If I did contour drawings as well as you I would do them all the time too! It isn’t something I ever really got the hang of. Super sketches!!!

Tthank you for your visit and comment, II appreciate it!
