Bowl with grapes still life.

It is time for the grapes of autumn, my favorite being Muscat. the problem with grapes is that you don’t keep track of how much you eat and before you know it you have devoured bunch after bunch of sugar! That is exactly what happened to me when painting this still life. This little painting is 15×20 cm and is available on my website, Ronell van Wyk

Three still life oil paintings.

Winter is approaching and time will be spent more in the indoor studio than outdoors. It is the perfect time to do still life and interior sketches-and paintings. Neither still life nor interior painting is my strong suit, so my project and goal for this coming winter is including these genres in my everyday painting.

The first little still life I did, wasn’t too bad, even though my strokes were all over the place. But from there on it was downhill all the way, until just suddenly things changed for the better. I started having so muchfun, that I can’t understand why I haven’t done it sooner.

Fall chrysanthemums in oil.

The chrysanthemum is the flower of the moment. all along pathways, in gardens, on balconies, in public parks, they accentuate the splendor of  autumn color. The warmth and depth of ochres and siennas.

La Dordogne and a walnut grove: catching autumn colours 4.

The Dordogne is such a beautiful river and with the walnut groves just beside it makes for magnificent scenery, especially in October with its multitude of colour.

I am still doing landscapes “the new way”;, although I am beginning to think it isn’t the real me. My sketches are much more loose and more spontaneous, albeit not always pretty and correct. But it is me. The landscape sketches I am doing lately feels more like small paintings done in sketchbooks. They are much more detailed and take much longer than my usual way of sketching. I am still enjoying it though. Maybe I will find that golden median between sketching like this and my usual style..

Urban sketches in Beaulieu.

Below are two sketches I did from the car. I don’t often sketch from inside the car…somehow I am uncomfortable and the window is in my way. But I suppose everything just need to be done regularly and it will become habit. In bad weather it definitely is an advantage to sketch from inside the car.
