After the frost came the snow. A corner of the garden at Coin Perdu this morning. Not a thick blanket of snow, but magical nonetheless.
And so winter has arrived in all its glory...misty, the world covered in frost, cold. We wear coats and scarves, boots and gloves. The best part of this day is being out in the cold and coming back in to settle by the fireside. A typical january day.
Wednesday is epiphany, so it is time for galette des rois. I can't believe we are eating again...so soon after the holidays! And then after la galette des rois we will go onto pancakes in February. it just doesn't stop, all this feasting. But that is OK too, life is meant to be a feast of all our senses. Let's do just that!!
As the sun sets on Coin Perdu, it is also setting on this rather tumultuous year. Let's take all that is good and positive into 2021and make it the best we can. Thank you for your constant support and kindness. Bonne année!

  • Mushroom soup and November colours. November 7, 2020
A mushroom velouté is just what we need for the month of november. I used the ordinary champignon de Paris, the button mushroom, but the bolet from Bordeaux also makes an excellent velouté for a special evening since it is rather on the expensive side. If you are looking for a quick and inexpensive, but…

  • Washing muddy horses. February 15, 2014
The big problem with draft horses roaming free in the pastures is that they get very dirty in winter. and of course they hate being closed up. Living on hills don’t make it any easier. So we keep them in a smaller camp, both for their own sake and for the fields’ sake. But with […]
