EDM – art 26 & 27: A sign & something furry.

Two things I always have to do when I go up to Paris. I have to say hi to the Eiffel tower and I have to go visit the jardin de Luxembourg. It has become my two love affairs over the years. So what could be more appropriate than showing off the signs everywhere to be found in le jardin de Luxembourg.

signs luxembourgCats have more than six senses, I am sure. As soon as I start sketching them, they become uncomfortable and move away. Just sometimes I can catch enough on paper to present a recognizable sketch.

EDM – art 23, 24, 25: Detail of a building, keys, cover for something messy.

Our porcherie(little pighouse) at Coin Perdu. A fairly dilapidated outbuilding here on the farm where the pigs were kept. It will be turned into something, don’t know yet what.

We have a magnitude of keys, some from the brocantes, some found in the attic, some dug up, some lost ones, some unknown ones and some…well, just some.

My shoes are covered in oil paints. I wear them when I go plein air painting and when I go to town. I wear them whenever, because they are comfy and being so colourful, they go with everything.

EDM-art 22: Something hanging on the wall.

I have an extreme “coup de fatigue”today and had only enough energy for a few scribbled ink lines and a few squiggles of watercolor pencil, mixed together with random splashes of water.  Kitchen tools hanging from the stone wall in the kitchen corner of our temporary barn. Voilà. That’s it.

EDM-art 2 : Favorite spot to read.

I can read anywhere and I have too many favorite spots to name. It can be outside or on the couch, or in a cafe, in a movie, when people bore me or when I feel boring to others .. But, if you want me in la-la land, give me a book in bed. We don’t have a television in the bedroom. Or a radio, or any other kind of electromagnetic/electronic/ultrasonic/robotic appliance.  And I can’t read in my bed. My bedroom is romantic and beautiful to be in.. My bed is beautiful to sleep in. And a book only makes me a sleeping beauty.

EDM-art 20: A purse/wallet.

I don’t want to sketch my wallet. It is always empty. It depresses me. But I love my bag. If I can’t find money in it, I can find many other cool stuff, like a book to read, painting tools, writing tools, chewing gum, photos, tablet, Swiss army knife, lip balm, measuring tape and other surprising paraphernalia. It hooks over my shoulder like an Indiana Jones and it looks the part too. Like all leather goods, it just gets more beautiful with age and its already 10 years of use clearly shows its road well traveled.  I have NO other bag. This is my bag for going out to dinner, as well as going to the market and everything in between. While wrapping my salmon one day, the fishmonger told me he has a a talent. He can tell people’s profession just by looking at them. “You are an historian“, he grinned after  scanning me, my reading glasses just balancing on my nose, my bag and my baggy clothes. I grinned too, rather sheepishly, hoping fervently it is the bag that resembled antiquity and not me.

EDM-art 16 & 18: Measuring tools and lipsticks.

We have more measuring tools in our home than we have food.  Fascinating stuff..all these rulers, square edges, the laser beams, the ultrasonic beams, I even have tiny pocket tapes for a handbag. An unending array of measuring tools, never to be found when needed

Lipstick. What does your lipstick, or lip balm say about you. Our good friend, Google, says the following:

  1. sharp angled tip:  opinionated, high spirited, hates schedules, outgoing, selective of friends, likes attention, argumentative…
  2. flat top: high morals, dependable, to the point, quick-minded, loves a challenge, careful about appearances…
  3. sharp angles on both sides:  spiritual, seeks attention, curious, mysterious, loves life, big ego..
  4. flat top, concave : great detective, make friends easily, inquisitive, adventurous…
  5. round, smooth tip: easy going, peacemaker, even-tempered,  steady, likeable, generous..
